IS IT WORTH THE COST?

Replacing an HVAC system—whether it’s an emergency or an energy-saving upgrade—means weighing which products and features are worth paying for…and which aren’t. Here’s our take:

  • Servicing features—such as hinged, toolless access panels and slide-out blower decks—can reduce service and maintenance labor, year in and year out. By providing quick, easy access to rooftop unit components such as the belt, blower and motor, these simple features can save a business a lot of money.
  • Building network control systems that integrate your HVAC with other building systems, such as fire, security and lighting, can also reduce the time and effort of facility control. Systems like the L Connection® Network allow diagnosis of service issues from a desktop computer for faster response.
  • One “enhancement” you may want to forgo: digital scroll compressors. These compressors are designed to provide temperature control within one-half of one degree Fahrenheit. Yet humans can’t detect temperature differences of less than two degrees! And with a digital compressor motor that’s running constantly, these features use more energy than a standard scroll compressor. Why would you pay more for a system that uses more energy…for temperature control you can’t feel?
  • Humidity control options not only make a building more comfortable, they also help control the mold, mildew and dust mites that can aggravate allergies and asthma. Lennox’ Humiditrol® dehumidification system for rooftop units (also available for split systems) reduces moisture regardless of room temperature for improved humidity control year-round.
