Achieving LEED certification starts with the right systems and units

The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is a voluntary program designed to help guide the development of high-performance commercial buildings such as offices, groceries, schools and more. The more LEED credits a project accumulates, the higher the rating the building or project receives. The higher the rating, the more "green" the building or project becomes.

LEED certified buildings typically provide owners and occupants the following benefits:

  • More energy-efficiency, so natural resources and the environment can be conserved
  • Less energy use which helps lower utility bills and total cost of ownership
  • Possible qualification for tax credits and other state and local incentives
  • Assisting in safeguarding the health and productivity of building occupants

Lennox offers a variety of HVAC products that can help owners achieve LEED rating points including the L Series® packaged rooftop unit, the Humiditrol® dehumidification system and the L Connection® Network commercial control system. Currently there is no such product as a "LEED Certified Product". LEED certification is only available for buildings.

Buildings earn LEED certification points based on meeting credits in several different categories. These categories include Energy and Atmosphere (EA), Innovation and Design (ID) and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ). Lennox products can help building owners obtain LEED points for the following credits1:

Lennox Products and LEED Credits:

  1. Energy and Atmosphere (EA)
    • EA Credit 1: Optimize Energy Performance Use Lennox' L Series high efficiency rooftop units to improve energy efficiency beyond ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004.
    • EA Credit 4: Enhanced Refrigerant Control Use Lennox' L Series rooftop units featuring R-410A refrigerant to help reduce ozone depletion and minimize global warming.
  2. Innovation and Design (ID)
    • ID Credit 1: Thermal Comfort Design Use Lennox' L Series rooftop units featuring the Humiditrol dehumidification system to achieve excellent thermal comfort.
  3. Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ)
    • o EQ Credit 2: Increased Ventilation Use Lennox' L Series rooftop units featuring economizers to provide outdoor ventilation that is a minimum of 30% higher than the ASHRAE 62.1-2004 requirement.
    • EQ Credit 6.2: Controllability of Systems Use Lennox' L Series rooftop units featuring the Integrated Modular Controller, the L Connection Network or the Commercial Touchscreen thermostat to provide a high level of thermal comfort system control by individual occupants or specific groups in multi-occupant spaces.
    • EQ Credit 7.1: Thermal Comfort Design Use a variety of Lennox products including Lennox' L Series rooftop units, the Humiditrol dehumidification system, MERV 11 filters and the L Connection Network control system to design a building according to the ASHRAE 55-2004 standard.
