R-410A refrigeration

Lennox was one of the first HVAC manufacturers to develop rooftop units that use R-410A, the non-ozone depleting refrigerant that is a popular alternative to R-22. Today, R-410A is available in several of Lennox' rooftop units and split systems.

Lennox offered the R-410A option years ahead of industry requirements. By 2010, the industry will have phased out production of systems that use R-22 (Freon), the chlorine-based refrigerant that can deplete the earth's ozone layer.

Switching to systems that use R-410 now is good for businesses because:

• It allows higher efficiencies than units that use R-22.
• R-410A units have a thicker, more durable compressor shell, and vibrate less to put less strain on piping connections where most leaks occur.
• Companies can realize the full life of their equipment without concern over future availability of R-22 refrigerant and service components.
• Businesses will avoid the service cost increases associated with production caps on R-22.
• Strict assembly procedures and larger refrigerant filters/driers reduce chance of compressor failure.

The new R-410A units also use a high-quality synthetic lubricant that helps protect parts from damage.
